Homeless man held in stabbings

A 25-year-old homeless man is facing attempted-murder charges following the stabbing of two men, ages 27 and 38, at Ala Moana Beach Park last night.

The two stabbing victims, who are also homeless, told police their assailant came at them with a knife about 10:45 p.m. for no apparent reason.

Police officers went to the park, found the alleged attacker and arrested him on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder as well as attempted first-degree murder.

A first-degree murder charge is brought in cases where someone kills or tries to kill more than one person in a single incident or when a law enforcement-officer is the victim.

The two men who were stabbed last night were taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition and were listed in the same condition this morning, police said.


Sex assault prompts arrest

A 43-year-old Kalihi man was arrested yesterday for questioning in connection with a sex-assault case.

A 15-year-old girl to police that the man, a family acquaintance, assaulted her.


Man questioned over bank incident

A 40-year-old man was questioned by police investigators yesterday in connection with an incident at a Kalihi bank on Tuesday.

Police said the man walked into the bank about 3:10 p.m. and tried to cash a stolen check.

A teller notified police, who went to the bank and arrested the man on suspicion of second-degree forgery.

The man was released without charges yesterday pending further investigation.


Transient suspect in series of thefts

A 24-year-old homeless man was arrested on suspicion of felony charges following a series of incidents that began at his mother's home in the Ko Olina subdivision, then moved to Hawai'i Kai and eventually ended in Kapahulu.

Police said the man stole his mother's purse about 12:30 pm. and took the family car. They initiated a theft case on behalf of the mother and issued an all-points bulletin for the car that was taken.

Later in the afternoon, the man was involved in three robberies involving three different women and three different locations, all within an hour's time.

East O'ahu patrol officers issued another all-points bulletin for the car after the third robbery, which took place on Kapahulu Avenue.

An off-duty police officer, who was monitoring police radio calls, heard the second bulletin and saw the car. He notified on-duty officers, who found and arrested the man on suspicion of three counts of second-degree robbery and one count of second-degree theft.
