Delta to expand Maui service

Delta Air Lines will add daily nonstop service from Salt Lake City to Kahului, Maui, on May 1, which will give Delta nine daily flights between Hawai'i and the Mainland.
The route will use Boeing 767-400 planes and will complement existing service between Los Angeles and Maui. Delta also flies between Salt Lake City and Honolulu.
Judge accepts Hawaiian plan
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Robert Faris has accepted the preliminary plan to reorganize Hawaiian Airlines filed jointly by RC Aviation LLC; Hawaiian's parent company, Hawaiian Holdings Inc.; the committee of unsecured creditors; and Hawaiian's bankruptcy trustee.
Faris' acceptance of the so-called amended disclosure statement means Hawaiian's creditors will vote on the plan on Dec. 15. He will consider its final approval in January.
Honeymooners still like Hawai'i
Hawai'i is the top destination for Japanese honeymooners, said Japan travel agency JTB Corp. About
30 percent of overseas honeymoon packages booked through JTB for October through December are for Hawai'i, said Norie Kamiwatari, supervisor of public relations for JTB Corp. in Tokyo. Hawai'i has been the most popular destination since 1998, she said.
Oceania was second, followed by Europe and then Asia. Kamiwatari said many Japanese like to get married and honeymoon in Hawai'i because of its safe image and convenience. She also said there is a "great choice of chapels" in Hawai'i.
State salutes building trades
Gov. Linda Lingle has proclaimed October "Construction Trades Awareness Month." As part of the observance, the Construction Career Expo will be held Oct. 20 at the Blaisdell Center's Exhibition Hall and hosted by the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, and the Apprenticeship and Training Coordinators Association of Hawaii.
