The Honolulu Zoo announced the arrival of the infant Komodo dragons four years ago. The Komodo hatchlings were a first for the zoo, and they were a first for Hawai'i.

On Jan. 8, 2000, a female Komodo dragon at the zoo laid her fertile eggs in the dirt.

Still babies and lacking coordination, Komodo dragons explore their surroundings at Honolulu Zoo. A clutch of the giant Indonesian monitor lizards hatched between Sept. 16 and Oct. 2, 2000, as a result of a captive breeding program for the endangered species.
