Police veteran to be assistant chief

Police Maj. Michael Tucker, a 29-year veteran of the Honolulu Police Department, has been promoted to assistant chief of police and will head the department's Regional Patrol Bureau, effective Sunday.

Tucker will oversee patrol operations in the Wahiawa, Pearl City, Windward O'ahu and Kapolei police districts, as well as the traffic division and emergency management command operations.

He joined the department in 1975 and served in the patrol, traffic, criminal investigation and human resources divisions.

Tucker was promoted to the rank of captain in the department's finance division in June 1998, and advanced to the rank of major when he was assigned to the Downtown Honolulu police district, the department's largest, in February 2000.

Tucker, who was born and raised in Hawai'i, earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education from the University of Hawai'i-Manoa and a graduate degree in criminal justice administration from Chaminade University.

Kevin Lima, former captain and executive officer of the Waikiki District, was promoted to major and will replace Tucker as major for the Downtown District.

Also promoted at a ceremony yesterday at police headquarters were Janet Crotteau, to captain; Bertram Angut, Rodney Noguchi and Michael Serrao, to lieutenant; and David Caraulia, David Chang, Roxanne Faulkner, David Futa, Derek Hahn and Dee Ann Koanui, to sergeant or detective.

Promoted to the the rank of metropolitan police officer II were Theodore Hackbarth, Michael Kemna, Camille Koholua, Winston Leong, Ivan Sanchez and Deric Valoroso.
