STAGE: Oct. 15

Vietnamese and Western theater styles blend as the Artist Repertory Theatre of Portland, Ore., presents Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (from left, Michael O'Connell is Lysander, Kristen Brown is Helena, Pham Do Ky is Demetrius and Pham Ngan Hoa is Hermia). This bi-cultural production includes Vietnamese traditional dance and music, as well as bilingual moments and projected supertitles. Tickets are $20, $25 and $35 general; $10 students.

CONCERT: Oct. 16

Hawai'i's own Three Tenors — Robert Cazimero, Les Ceballos and Aaron Sala — headline the Celebrate the ARTS! Alliance Awards 2004 concert, which includes other performers such as Pupukahi I Ke Alo O Na Pua of Mid-Pacific Institute, kumu hula Michael Casupang, Hawai'i Youth Opera Chorus, children from Princess Ka'iulani School and accompanist Bebe Freitas. The event, a fund-raiser for Hawai'i Alliance for Arts Education, also pays tribute to graphic artist Clarence Lee, winner of the Alfred Preis Award. Tickets are $35 general, $20 for Alliance members, $8 children.

CLUBS: Oct. 16

Experience "LIve @ Om" when legendary DJ artist Mark Farina brings the world tour to Hawai'i for a series of shows. Farina's trademark style is known as "Mushroom Jazz," a blend of instrumental hip-hop and jazzy soul. His other legendary DJ mix includes some funky beats in Chicago-style house sets that keep the crowd bumping. Local DJs jumping in for the fun include G-Spot, Daniel J Ward, IKON and Haboh. Tickets are $15 pre-sale, $20 after, for 18 and older.

STAGE: Oct. 16-Nov. 13

Honolulu Theatre for Youth's next offering is an educational look at Dec. 7, 1941, with "Nothing is the Same." Based on oral histories taken from residents of Wahiawa, the play looks at four children living in the area when the bombs drop. Written by Y York and directed by Mark Lutwak, the production is sponsored by the Arizona Memorial Museum Association. Tickets are $16 general and $8 seniors and youths. The play is recommended for 7 and older.

Rock on, on the lighter side, at the Lite Rock Concert featuring music from the '70s and '80s with Ambrosia, John Ford Coley, left, Terry Sylvester, Pauline Wilson and J Michaels. Tickets for general lawn seating are $12.50 advance and $15 at the door. Tickets for pool and terrace seating are $27.50 and $37.50 advance and $30 and $40 on the day of the show.

STAGE: Oct. 20-31

Aga-Boom, a family clown show featuring three former stars from Cirque du Soleil, blends circus, comedy and experimental theater into a wild ride of excitement. The audience will be swept up in an avalanche of paper, garbage-bag blimps and laughter. Tickets are $28 general and $18 for children, seniors and students for the Wednesday and Thursday shows, $38 general and $28 for children, seniors and students for the weekend shows. A portion of the proceeds from the weekday shows will benefit the Institute for Human Services' Women and Children's Center. The Halloween shows will feature costume contests and giveaways.

CONCERT: Oct. 23

Open your arms for a trip through the '80s as the pop-rock tunes of Journey come soaring this way. The hit band returns to Honolulu, minus lead singer Steve Perry, for more nostalgic tunes such as "Who's Crying Now," "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Be Good to Yourself." Tickets are $45 and $55.

STAGE: Oct. 29-Nov. 7

Go back in time to a pre-statehood Hawai'i during the nostalgic pidgin play "Manoa Valley." Written by playwright Edward Sakamoto and directed by Glenn Cannon, this offering on the Kennedy Theatre main stage takes a look at the lives of a local Japanese family. Tickets: $15 general, $12 seniors, military and UH faculty/staff, $10 non-UH-Manoa students and $3 UH-Manoa students.

CONCERT: Oct. 30

The world-famous Harlem Gospel Choir, below, brings its fabulous harmonies to Honolulu with the "Give Peace a Chance World Tour." The tour has taken the talented 13-member choir to Eastern Europe, South America, the French West Indies, Britain, Ireland and Northern Ireland. Tickets: $10-$35.

CONCERT: Oct. 30

Bring in the noise, bring in the funk ... and the salsa and the hip-hop and the bumps as Ozomatli, below, returns to our shores. The Grammy award-winning multicultural band offers a blend of sound acclaimed by critics everywhere. Hits include "Cut Chemist Suite," "O Le Le" and "Cumbia de Los Muertos." Tickets for the 21-and-older show are $17.50 advance, and $25 at the door. Pay $30 if you come without a costume.

CONCERT: Oct. 30

To the delight of girls and admiring boys, singer/actress Hilary Duff, above, brings her sugary sweet tunes to a concert at the Blaisdell Arena. Best known for her role as the title character on the Disney Channel's hot "Lizzie McGuire" series, Duff is also a recording artist; her debut solo album "Metamorphosis" included the teeny-bopper hits "So Yesterday" and "The Math." Tickets are $48.

"Shrek" lovers, mark your calendars: The DVD of the summer's megahit movie, "Shrek 2," will be released Nov. 5. It's listed at $17.99 at amazon.com.

ARTafterDARK

The monthly ARTafterDARK event at the Honolulu Academy of Arts goes a bit ghoulish this month with a Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) theme. Well, it's so close to Halloween, who could blame them? The focus: the arts and culture of Mexico. Hours are from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 29. Admission is $7 general, free for museum members. Costumes are encouraged.

Leeward theater milestone

The Leeward Community College Theatre celebrates its 30th year with a concert featuring Melveen Leed, Tony C. & Friends, Halau Hula Olana and Tau Dance Theatre, 8 p.m. Oct. 16.
