Tonight's Must-See

Tonight on KHNL News 8

Join Diane Ako, Joann Shin and Reid Shimizu for all the weekend's news, weather, and sports. That's Saturdays and Sundays, only on KHNL News 8.
"Desperate Housewives," 9 p.m., ABC. If you missed Sunday's premiere, here's another chance. This pilot film deftly mixes comedy and drama with touches of "American Beauty" and "The Stepford Wives." In suburbia, we meet five attractive women. On the surface, each is enviable; underneath, their souls are wobbling in serious or funny ways.

"McLeod's Daughters," 7 p.m., WE. Last week we met two half-sisters, trying to save their late father's Australian ranch. Claire is strong and solid; Tess is a soft city kid who wants to sell the place. Tonight, they plunge into a sheep-shearing operation. Rumors and dissension swirl around the crew. It's a well-made episode with richly layered characters. This series, a hit in Australia, is worth keeping up with.

Of Note

"Head 2 Toe," 8:30 a.m., Lifetime. This series ends its season with makeovers of two friends. Both happen to work for Lifetime and both are cancer survivors.

"The Most Outrageous Moments on Live TV," 7 p.m., NBC. Here's another rerun of odd moments on live television. Don't expect to see Janet Jackson, but you will see George Bush, Margaret Thatcher and Jamie Lee Curtis.

"Survivor: Vanuatu," 7 p.m.. CBS. This is a quick rerun of Thursday's episode.

"Pure Luck" (1991), 7 p.m., Pax TV. Martin Short stars in this comedy as the trouble-prone assistant to a serious detective (Danny Glover).

"Without a Trace," 8 p.m., CBS. When a woman disappears, twins are suspects.

"The Apprentice," 8 p.m., NBC. This reruns the hour that ran Thursday. The teams try to sell things on the QVC cable channel.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. Cindy Williams plays a distraught grandmother who believes a wealthy toy mogul is sexually abusing kids.

"Saturday Night Live," 10:30 p.m., NBC. After a moderately entertaining season opener with Ben Affleck, tonight's host and musical guest is Queen Latifah, who's starring in "Taxi," which is in theaters this weekend.
