Galdeira, Shin anchor KHNL sunrise show

Advertiser Staff

Lyle Galdeira and Joann Shin will co-anchor the KHNL News 8 sunrise show, from 5:30 to 7 a.m. weekdays, starting Monday on the NBC affiliate.

Galdeira will continue his Cheap Eats, Does It Work? and Lucky You Live Hawai'i features aired throughout the week on News 8. Before joining News 8 in April 1995, he was a spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety and his previous Island broadcast credits include stints at KGMB-9 and KITV-4.

Shin is the weekend weather anchor and reporter. She often does a morning shift on the wake-up program. She joined KHNL as a general assignment reporter in September 2001, and has worked at KVEW, the ABC affiliate in Tri-Cities, Wash.

Galdeira assumes the post vacated by Stephanie Lum, who will move to sister station KFVE, which is inaugurating K5 News at Nine on the WB affiliate, starting Oct. 18. Her co-anchor will be Walter Makaula, from KGMB-9.

Paul Drewes, who has been the morning meteorologist and reporter, will join Diane Ako to co-anchor KHNL's weekend newscasts, at 6 and 10 p.m. Saturdays and at 5 and 10 p.m. Sundays. He also will do 9 p.m. weekend newscasts on K5 and handle reporting chores on weekdays.

"We are pleased to be able to move people around internally to provide us with the best possible teams in all our newscasts," said John Fink, KHNL general manager. "Response has been great. Lyle, Joann, Diane and Paul have all been doing a good job for us."
