Montana-Billings defeats BYUH in PacWest volleyball

Valasi Sepulona amassed 16 kills and Kahala Kabalis 14 as Chaminade swept Hawaii-Hilo, 30-17, 30-28, 30-20, last night in a Pacific West Conference women's volleyball match at UHH Gymnasium.
Patti Hardimon added nine kills and Kalae Araujo 16 digs for the Silverswords, who hit .313 for the match and improved to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the PacWest.
Christina Cooley had eight kills and Rose Ramsey 10 digs for the Vulcans (4-11, 1-5).
Elsewhere in the PacWest last night, Jessica Bratton had 12 kills and Alicia Cazemier 11 as Montana State-Billings swept Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 30-18, 30-21, 30-19, at Billings, Mont.
The host Yellowjackets, who hit .327 for the match, improved to 10-5 overall and 3-3 in the PacWest.
Yu Chuan Weng had 10 kills and three blocks to lead the Seasiders, who fell to 7-7 overall and 1-5 in the PacWest.
The Honolulu mayoral race has found its way to court: the basketball court. Duke Bainum and Mufi Hannemann will serve as assistant coaches in the University of Hawai'i men's intrasquad scrimmage next Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Bainum will aid assistant coach Bob Burke's "White" Team while Hannemann will join associate coach Jackson Wheeler's "Green" team at the annual Midnight 'Ohana.
The Rainbow Wahine will play a 10-minute intrasquad scrimmage preceding the men's game. KHON2 sports anchor John Veneri and KGMB sports director Liz Chun are the celebrity coaches.
The introduction of both teams will begin at midnight, followed by a 3-point contest between the men's and women's teams, a slam-dunk contest with the men players and the two scrimmages. Doors open at 8 p.m. There is no admission charge. There will be carnival games and entertainment throughout the evening.
The Hawai'i State Basketball Officials Association is looking for men and women who are interested in officiating high school basketball for O'ahu Interscholastic Association games this winter.
The first meeting of the season will be held Oct. 18, 7 p.m. at Waipahu High School.
Weekly meetings will cover rules review, mechanics, philosophy and instructional videos.

The No. 13 Brigham Young-Hawai'i men's water polo team won a pair of matches yesterday at the Claremont Convergence tournament in Claremont, Calif.
Vanja Kalabic scored three goals, and Vlada Stankovic and Keith Dow each had two goals as the Seasiders edged 20th-ranked Redlands, 8-7.
Ryan Hall scored four goals to lead Redlands (8-8).
Later in the day, senior Keith Dow scored a career-high five goals as BYUH hammered host Claremont McKenna, 19-7. Kalabic added four goals for the Seasiders (7-2).
Billy Martin scored two goals for Claremont McKenna (4-9).
