ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Couch potatoes, here's one for you
Advertiser Staff and News Services
If you watch a lot of TV, recline on a couch and manipulate a remote control, the second annual Couch Potato Survival Challenge starting at 5 p.m. Thursday as part of the 40th Annual Food & New Products Show at Blaisdell Center may be your ticket to fame. The prize is a couch potato's dream: a DVD home theater system, a new couch, a trip to Las Vegas and more.
Nine finalists will be selected when the trade show opens; check www.Pacificexpos.com, or tune in to KCCN-FM 100 for details. Layabouts will be watched and fed around the clock. Folks attending will vote on the winner. One hitch: if you win, you have to haul home all the goodies yourself. Hip fit is key with jeans
Fashion advice, from Ann Kagan of Ann K. Kahala Fashions: If you have large hips, one of the hardest garments to find is a perfect pair of jeans.
When you find jeans that fit just right, buy them. This may require trying on many pairs, because jeans usually go by waist size. But keep trying until you find the perfect hip fit. It's easy to alter the waist, but the hip cannot be altered.
FINAL WORD
Simon Cowell | The "American Idol" judge whose image and voice were added to the soon-to-be-released "Shrek 2" DVD, on how his "Shrek" critiques differ from his acid-tongued "Idol" commentaries: "(With "Shrek 2") you're dealing with animals, not humans. You have to be more considerate."
