Sensley, Abele projected all-WAC

Advertiser Staff

Two University of Hawai'i basketball players were named to the preseason all-conference first team and the UH men and women were picked to finish in the middle of the pack or lower, according to Western Athletic Conference coaches and media.

Julian Sensley, who helped lead the UH men to a National Invitation Tournament appearance last season, and Jade Abele, who led the Rainbow Wahine in several categories, were named preseason All-WAC today by league coaches.

Sensley, a 6-foot-9 junior forward, averaged 12.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game last season. The former Kalaheo High standout is the only returning starter from last season's men's team that finished 21-12.

Abele, a 6-foot-1 junior forward from Victoria, Austrlia, led led the team in scoring (14.2 ppg), rebounds (6.1 rpg), assists (60) and 3-pointers made (38). The Rainbow Wahine finished 8-20 last season, the final under coach Vince Goo.

Goo retired after 17 seasons with a 334-166 win-loss record. Jim Bolla was hired as the women's coach in July.

The UH men were predicted to finish fifth in the 10-team league by the WAC coaches and fourth by WAC media.

The UH women were picked to finish eighth in the 10-team WAC, according to coaches. There was no media poll for women.
