Robbery reported at Kalihi school

A 26-year-old man told police he was robbed at gunpoint early today at Fern Elementary School in Kalihi.

The man said he went to use a school restroom about 1:40 a.m. when three men demanded his backpack and one of them stabbed him in the abdomen.

The man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he was reported in guarded condition upon his arrival.


Purse-snatching suspect arrested

A security guard thwarted an attempted purse-snatching about 9 p.m. yesterday at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center in Waikiki.

Police said a 31-year-old woman was walking in front of the shopping center when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her purse.

A 30-year-old man chased after the purse-snatcher but lost him, police said. But a shopping-center security guard was able to catch the man and hold him until police arrived.

The suspect, 20, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree theft.


Woman held, man flees after theft

Police arrested a 35-year-old woman yesterday on suspicion of stealing a DVD player from a Kahala Mall store.

Police said the woman entered the store with a man in his 30s about 2 p.m., and that the pair were seen taking the electronic device off a shelf and placing it in a shopping bag.

The two left the store without paying for the player and were confronted by a security guard, police said. The man fled, but the woman was arrested.

The woman was charged with second-degree robbery.


Man suspected of attacking girl, 13

A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault yesterday after his 13-year-old daughter told police he assaulted her repeatedly last month.

Police today were hoping to charge the father with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and seven counts of third-degree sexual assault.
