Critic's Choice

Mini reviews by Joseph T. Rozmiarek of stage productions on O'ahu

"Anything Goes": This 70-year-old Cole Porter musical comedy is revved up with plenty of color, style and tap dancing. The songs carry the silly characters, so the best approach is to not think about it and simply enjoy. Repeats at 8 p.m. today and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at Diamond Head Theatre. Tickets are $12-$42; discounts for students, seniors 62 and older and military. 733-0274.

"Big River": Mark Twain fans can be glad that the musical generally follows the plot of "Huckleberry Finn" and Roger Miller fans will find much of his folksy good humor in the songs. The show offers a personal message on slavery, bigotry and morality. Repeats at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 4 p.m. Sundays, through Nov. 7 at Paliku Theatre. Tickets are $26 general, $22 people older than 62 and military, $18 students and children. 235-7433, www.etickethawaii.com/perform.html.

"Bullshot Crummond": A wacky spoof of 1930s spy movies. Exaggerated physical comedy and outrageous dialogue satisfy a taste for the extreme. Repeats at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 4 p.m. Sundays, through Nov. 7 at The Actors' Group's Yellow Brick Studio. Tickets are $10. 722-6941, taghawaii.org.
