Mark Farina takes a spin

Experience the sounds of Mark Farina as the legendary DJ returns to the Islands as part of the Live @ Om world tour. This popular Chicago-style house DJ is best known for his funky mix of "Mushroom Jazz" — instrumental hip-hop blended with jazzy soul. Local DJs also getting their groove on include G-Spot, Daniel J, IKON and Habo.

Celebrating Leeward theater

Leeward Community College Theatre celebrates its 30th anniversary this weekend with a star-studded roster of performers, including "Da Tita" Melveen Leed and slack-key guitar artist Makana. Tony C. and Friends, Halau Hula Olana and Tau Dance Theatre are also part of the lineup to wish the theater a happy birthday.

Tokyo String Quartet in concert

The Tokyo String Quartet performs Saturday at Orvis Auditorium.
The Honolulu Chamber Music series opens its 50th anniversary season with the captivating sounds of the Tokyo String Quartet. With Martin Beaver and Kikuei Ikeda on violin, Kazuhide Isomura on viola and Clive Greensmith on cello, this celebrated chamber ensemble offers a program with works from Haydn, Zemlinksy and Dvorak.

The quartet also takes part in a free pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m. Hosted by University of Hawai'i music professor Lesley Wright, the lecture takes place in the Music Department, Room 36.

Cazimeros in harmony downtown

The Aloha Friday Hawaiian Concert series continues tonight with the jolly harmonies of The Brothers Cazimero (Robert in front, Roland in the back). The show also features song and dance with Halau Na Kamalei, under the direction of Robert Cazimero. The recently renovated Mission Memorial Auditorium houses the concert, on the Civic Center grounds next to Honolulu Hale (just across the street from the Mission Houses Museum). Free parking is available at the Civic Center parking garage. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Get into the '70s and '80s groove

Ambrosia, right, John Ford Coley and Terry Sylvester come together for a trip back to the '70s and '80s. Pop band Ambrosia's top 10 hits include "How Much I Feel" and "Holdin' On to Yesterday." Coley, formerly of the popular duo England Dan and John Ford Coley, is best known for chart-toppers that include "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight" and "Love is the Answer." Sylvester, former lead singer of the Hollies, fronted such jams as "The Air That I Breathe" and "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother." This light rock concert also features the talents of Grammy Award winner Pauline Wilson and the J Michaels Band.

Calling keiki to Pearlridge

The Children and Youth month celebration continues this weekend as Pearlridge Center hosts a Keiki Fun Day. Kids can enjoy a day of play with arts and crafts, face-painting and balloon animals. Nickelodeon's Game Lab makes its first Hawai'i visit just in time for the occasion. This interactive stage show features stunts and physical challenges based on programs shown on the popular network, such as Pin the Pie on the Parent and CatDog Scratch. One "lucky" keiki will get slimed with each show. Forty-five minute shows start at noon and 2 p.m. in the Uptown center court.

Three tenors to raise bucks

That Robert Cazimero is over all over the place! He's one of the "Three Tenors of Hawai'i," which also includes Les Ceballos and Aaron Sala, performing at Celebrate the Arts! Alliance Awards 2004. This annual fund-raiser for Hawai'i Alliance for Arts Education also showcases the talents of Pupukahi I Ke Alo O Na Pua of Mid-Pacific Institute, kumu hula Michael Casupang, Hawai'i Youth Opera Chorus, keiki from Princess Ka'iulani School and accompanist Beebe Freitas. International choreographer Liz Lerman is special guest; Elizabeth Lindsey Buyers hosts. Ten schools from around the Islands will be recognized for arts excellence. Clarence Lee, known for his Lunar New Year postage-stamp series, will be honored with this year's Alfred Preis Award. A pre-show reception catered by L'Uraku will be held at The ARTS at Marks Garage.
