Rainbow Wahine may miss two players
Advertiser Staff
Rainbow Wahine guard Amy Sanders is recovering from a leg strain and will not play in tonight's Midnight Ohana scrimmage, and guard Janevia Taylor is awaiting medical clearance today and her playing status is "day to day," according to UH assistant coach Pat Charity.
"Amy is definitely out," Charity said. "I'm still waiting on 'Nevie's situation. It's kind of day to day."
Charity said federal privacy laws prevented her from disclosing Taylor's condition. Taylor, a 5-foot-5 sophomore, made the All-WAC Freshman team last season.
Charity said Taylor was "a no go" as of yesterday, but her status could change depending on today's medical test results.
Sanders, a 5-foot-11 junior, is recovering from a strain on the back part of her leg, Charity said.
Last season, Sanders averaged 5.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. She started 16 games and was one of four players to appear in all 28 games.
Taylor averaged 9.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and was second in assists (54) and first in steals (43). She started 19 straight games.
In other news, the Rainbow Wahine added former player Natasja (Allen) Oderman to the coaching staff.
Oderman, 23, played for the Rainbow Wahine from 2000-03.
Oderman made the WAC Academic Team in 2000-01, and earned WAC Player of the Week honors in 2002-03.
She married Paul Oderman on Nov. 28, 2003.
