Advertiser Staff
LIHU'E, Kaua'i Coast Guard crews yesterday rescued about 30 kayakers who were stranded after heavy rain swelled the Wai-alua River on Kaua'i.
Two groups of kayakers were safely returned to the boat ramp at the mouth of the river. No injuries were reported, officials said.
A 23-foot Coast Guard vessel and two smaller boats were used in the rescue effort.
The smaller boats picked up the stranded kayakers and transported them to an area where the larger boat could pick them up.
Officials said the operation was completed by 6 p.m.
