Farrington's victory helps Roosevelt gain playoff berth

Advertiser Staff

Roosevelt got a pardon from the Governors.

The Rough Riders' season is still alive after Farrington downed McKinley, 44-8, in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division regular season finale last night at Roosevelt.

The loss eliminated the Tigers (1-4-1), who finished with three championship points. The Rough Riders (2-4), who dropped a 29-28 decision against Castle on Friday, ended with four championship points.

The top five teams from the East and top five from the West advance to the Red tournament. The top three teams from each division draw first-round byes.

On Friday, Roosevelt will play 'Aiea at 7 p.m. at Mililani, while Nanakuli travels to Kailua. The time for the Kailua site will be determined if there is a JV game preceding it.

Division champions Kahuku (East) and Mililani (West), as well as runners-up Castle and Leilehua and third-place teams Farrington and Kapolei draw byes and don't play until the following weekend.

The Red Raiders will play the winner of 'Aiea-Roosevelt and the Trojans play the winner of Kailua-Nanakuli on Oct. 29 at Aloha Stadium in quarterfinal play. On Oct. 30, Kapolei will play Castle at Moanalua, while Farrington travels to Leilehua.

The White semifinals will be played Oct. 30. Kaiser will visit Waipahu and Radford will play at Campbell.
