ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Live simply and get real
Advertiser Staff
In living more simply, we encounter life more directly in a firsthand and immediate manner, author Duane Elgin wrote in "Voluntary Simplicity." We need little when we are directly in touch with life.
Elgin writes: "If we fully appreciate the learning and love that life offers us in each moment, then we feel less desire for material luxuries that contribute little to our well-being and that deprive those in genuine need of scarce resources. When we live with simplicity, we give ourselves and others a gift of life."
Wanna be green? Here are a few things to know about going organic, courtesy last month's issue of YM magazine:
• "Organic" doesn't always equal "healthy." So if you're deciding between a conventionally grown orange and an organic cupcake, pick the orange it's more nutritious. • Not all organic foods are fortified with extra vitamins and minerals. Read labels and take a multivitamin to be sure you're getting your daily requirements. • Since harsh pesticides aren't used, your organic tomatoes may look a little lumpy and spotted. But it's what's on the inside that counts.
Eat organically, but be sensible about it
