Liquor store bandit sought

Police today were looking for a lone gunman who tried to rob a liquor store in McCully last night.

Police said the man entered the store about 10:40 p.m. and went to the counter to pay for a small item when he pulled out a handgun and demanded money.

When the store owners refused to hand over any cash, the robber tried to steal the cash register but couldn't and left the store empty-handed, police said.

No one was hurt during the incident.

Four suspected in O'ahu thefts

Police yesterday arrested three men and a woman they believe are responsible for a series of crimes throughout O'ahu.

A property crime task force made up of police officers from the East Honolulu police district caught up with the men — ages 20, 21 and 27 — and the 27-year-old woman yesterday and arrested them on a variety of charges including suspicion of burglary, theft, promotion of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Two shot in Ma'ili scuffle

Two men were taken to The Queen's Medical Center this morning for treatment of relatively minor gun wounds after they were involved in a fracas shortly after midnight on Pa'akea Road in Ma'ili.

Police said a Windward O'ahu man called up a man in Ma'ili and told him he was going to beat him up.

The man who was threatened is the new boyfriend of a woman who had recently ended a relationship with the man who allegedly made the threat, police said.

Several Windward O'ahu men showed up in Ma'ili shortly after midnight and shots were fired, police said.

The two groups separated briefly but got together a second time for a fistfight minus any guns, police said.

No one had been arrested as of about 7 a.m. today although the man who fired the gun, if located, could face attempted murder charges, police said.

Teen suspected of robbing boy, 12

Police yesterday arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of second-degree robbery in connection with an incident involving a 12-year-old boy on Sunday.

The younger boy told police he was walking on Ho'olaule'a Street in Pearl City at noon when the older boy confronted him, demanded money and ran away after taking the other boy's property.

Police booked the older boy yesterday and then released him pending further investigation.

Police arrest car theft suspect

A man was arrested on suspicion of car theft and unlawfully entering a motor vehicle following an incident in Wahiawa yesterday.

Police said a witness approached a patrol officer near Kamehameha Highway and California Avenue and told him about a possible stolen car. A computer check verified the car had been stolen, police said.

The officer attempted to detain a suspect in the case, but the man broke free and ran, police said.

The fleeing man got into a car that had stopped at an intersection and told the surprised driver to leave the area, but the driver refused. The man then jumped out of the car, but took the driver's cell phone with him.

Additional police officers responding to the incident caught up with the man an arrested him, police said. No one was injured during the incident.
