Water-line rupture affects North Shore

Advertiser Staff

Residents from Hale'iwa to Turtle Bay were asked to conserve water today as repair crews worked to fix a ruptured 16-inch Honolulu Board of Water Supply transmission line.

The break was reported at 2:44 a.m. today on Kamehameha Highway near Kahalewai Place, prompting police to close the highway until repairs were finished, said Tracy Burgo, a water board spokeswoman.

The job was expected to last all day, she said.

Traffic was diverted onto the Joseph P. Leong Highway.

No customers were without water, but they will experience low pressure until the line is repaired.

Transmission lines move water over long distances to reservoirs, so customers will have water as long as there is water in the reservoir, Burgo said.
