Advertiser Staff and News Services

Publisher Lono Goo's first issue of Makai Ocean Lifestyle magazine started appearing in 152 locations earlier this month. With an initial run of 12,000 copies, it features surf and ocean-sport articles and photos, a monthly calendar of ocean events and in its October issue, race results from the Outrigger Canoe Club's

Dad Center race over Labor Day weekend. Gracing its cover is surfer Buffalo Keaulana. For more information on where to find the magazine, go to www.makaihawaii.com.

Marathon 10K event wants you

Can't you just hear Oprah Winfrey now?

"Everybody gets to walk! You get to walk! And you get to walk! And you and you and you get to walk!"

Eh, so maybe it's not quite as buzz-inducing as the Winfrey giving away free cars on her TV show, but if you're into fitness as much as the Big O, you should be smiling at this week's announcement that Bob Greene, Winfrey's celebrated personal trainer, will be leading the annual Honolulu Marathon Race Day 10K.

The event typically attracts 4,700 runners. The Marathon Association, along with new partner McDonald's Restaurants, hopes to double that figure with more local participants. The noncompetitive walk starts right after the marathon on Dec. 12.

FINAL WORD

Hilary Duff | on the heavier subject matter on her just-released second CD, in Blender magazine:

"Well, I'm not going to sing about lollipops because I no longer relate to lollipops."
