PacWest honors HPU's Brakling

Flavia Brakling, who led Hawai'i Pacific to a pair of volleyball wins over Montana State-Billings, has been named Pacific West Conference Player of the Week.
Brakling, a junior outside hitter from Brazil, had 36 kills and 31 digs in seven games. In Friday's match, she had 22 kills and 20 digs.
Brakling is fifth in the PacWest in kills per game (4.28) and hitting percentage (.312).
Gilliam, UH-Hilo prevail in California
Colin Gilliam won medalist honors to help Hawai'i-Hilo post a 16-stroke victory at the Elco, Inc. Intercollegiate Golf Tournament yesterday at Bakersfield, Calif.
Gilliam, a junior from Mission, British Columbia, shot a final-round 1-under 71 to finish with a 54-hole total of 5-under 211 at the 6,819-yard Stockdale Country Club. Three players tied for second at 213.
The Vulcans, No. 2 in the Precept/GCAA NCAA Division II rankings, shot a final-round 294 to finish at 6-under 858. Host Cal State Bakersfield finished second in the 16-team field at 874.
Other UHH golfers were: Nick Mason (79), Tysen Shinaut (79) and Kevin Shimomura (69), who all tied for 21st with 218 totals. Garrett Okamura tied for 57th with 75228.
Warriors finish 17th in Nevada tournament
The final round of the 28th Wolf Pack Classic at Reno, Nev., was canceled because of windy and rainy conditions yesterday, leaving the University of Hawai'i 17th in the 18-team field.
The Warriors shot 611. Lamar won with a 12-under 564 total.
Denver's Charlie Soule, Lamar's Dawie VanDerWalt and Oregon State's Ryan Gilmour shared the title with 5-under 139 totals.
UH golfers were: Cody Wolfenbarger (150, tie for 50th), Ben Douglas (151, tie for 55th), Jarett Hamamoto (153, tie for 64th), Pierre-Henri Soero (157, tie for 79th) and Travis Toyama (162, 89th).
