Operating loss at Hawaiian

Hawaiian Airlines suffered a $2 million operating loss in September after 17 consecutive months of profits.

The company generated $4.3 million more in revenue compared with September 2003, but saw $11 million more in operating expenses.

Company officials said fuel costs went up 48 percent; aircraft maintenance, 76 percent; and labor, 12 percent.



Sam's opens in town today

The members-only Sam's Club on Ke'eaumoku Street opens today at 7 a.m. to business customers and 10 a.m. to the public.

The event follows the opening last week of Wal-Mart under the 150,000-square-foot Sam's Club.
