Alleged driver in Pearl City police chase charged

An 18-year-old Village Park man was charged yesterday with 10 felony counts, including first-degree attempted murder, after he allegedly rammed several vehicles and led police on a wild chase in Pearl City Oct. 13.

Thomas W. Greene of Hamau Street, who was shot by police, was being held last night on $250,000 bail. He was charged with first-degree attempted murder, which carries a life term in prison without the chance of parole, because he tried to run over a police officer, police said.

Greene also was charged with driving a stolen vehicle, burglary, first-degree criminal property damage, assault on a law-enforcement officer, attempted assault on a law-enforcement officer, two more counts of attempted assault, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Greene is accused of driving a stolen 1993 Honda Civic and fleeing from police as they attempted to stop his car on Oct. 13 on Kamehameha Highway near Acacia Road. Police said Greene rammed several vehicles and drove his car at the officers.

Greene was shot in the stomach by police as he attempted to flee. He was hospitalized until Wednesday, when he was released and immediately arrested.

Randy Garcia, 24, who police said was a passenger in the stolen Honda, has been charged with second-degree theft, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.
