UH's Curtis advances in Western Regional

Senior Kimberly Curtis won both of her matches as the University of Hawai'i women's tennis team opened play at the Wilson/ITA Western Regional yesterday in San Diego.

Curtis was the lone Rainbow Wahine to reach the 64-player main draw. She defeated UCLA's Amber Ray, 6-0, 6-1, and outlasted Santa Barbara's Leslie Damion, 6-2, 3-6, (12-10).

Hawai'i's seven other singles players failed to win their first-round matches although freshman Julia Sandborn won her feed-in match, beating Pepperdine's Vanessa Dunlap, 8-5.

Curtis will meet UNLV's Cindy Trebor today.
