World Series, 1:30 p.m., Fox. Amid the blur of TV sports, this is the game that really counts. It's an American classic, the start of a best-of-seven series. The winner will be three victories away from a spot in baseball history.

"The Princess Diaries" (2001), 7 p.m., ABC. A teenager (Anne Hathaway) is a likable outsider. She's smart, has a couple friends, but is miles away from the "in" crowd. Then comes the news that changes everything: It seems that she's a princess in some little kingdom she'd never heard of. That notion has been turned into surprisingly pleasant entertainment — twice. First was Meg Cabot's novel with its chatty charm. Then came this lightly enjoyable movie. Garry Marshall directed, with his usual deft touch. Hathaway brings a mix of intelligence and vulnerability; Julie Andrews is solid as the royal grandmother. "Princess Diaries" is a good-looking little film that became a true rarity — a G-rated, noncartoon that made more than $100 million.

Of Note

"The Cowboy Way" (1994), 7 p.m., Pax TV. Hollywood always likes to plop cowboys in the city. That has worked for Clint Eastwood ("Coogan's Bluff"), Dennis Weaver ("McCloud") and more. This time, Woody Harrelson and Keifer Sutherland play rodeo guys who head to New York City to learn what happened to a friend. They soon tangle with bad guys.

"NCIS," 8 p.m., CBS. Recruiters are being killed by someone who seems to be an expert sniper.

"The Apprentice," 8 p.m., NBC. Here is a rerun of Thursday's episode with the two teams facing a task involving dogs.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. A criminology student is raped and murdered, and the killer seems to be an expert in forensics.

"Desperate Housewives," 9 p.m., ABC. Here is a rerun of last Sunday's episode, mixing fun and intrigue. Susan (Teri Hatcher) reveals too much of her body and Bree (Marcia Cross) reveals too much about her troubled marriage. Also, Gabrielle (Eva Longoria) learns her secret affair has been witnessed by someone else.

"Saturday Night Live," 10:30 p.m., NBC. Jude Law hosts with Ashlee Simpson as musical guest.
