Lutherans present church concert

The Lutheran Church of Honolulu will present its concert, "Behold a Mighty Prophet," at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the church, 1730 Punahou St.
Besides the music of Peter R. Hallock for choir and handbells, the program includes "The Last Judgment" for baritone, choir and percussion ensemble; "The Dawning" and "Jubilemus Omnes" for men's choir and five cellos; "Phoenix" for baritone, choir, cello and harp; and "Brevity" for baritone, chamber orchestra, oboe and harp.
Hallock himself will be present to celebrate his 80th birthday. Carl Crosier will conduct the Lutheran Church of Honolulu Choir, The Compline Choir, the Bach Chamber Orchestra, a handbell choir, a percussion ensemble and a consort of five violoncellos. Baritone David Newman will be featured soloist. Tickets are $15 ($12 seniors, $10 students).

Elaine "Leilani" Madison, Ph.D., and Gerald Madison will discuss "Perspectives from the 2004 Gandhian Nonviolence Conference" at the Interfaith Open Table, 7 a.m. Nov. 3 at the UCC Conference Center Board Room, 15 Craigside Place.
At the conference earlier this month, the associate professor of English presented the paper, "Becoming a Nonviolent Teacher in the College Writing Classroom." Her husband, a former Marine Corps pilot, presented "Recovering from Militarism: A Pilgrimage from Violence to Wholeness."
