ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Don't try to do it all at once
Advertiser Staff
If you have one of those brains that goes naturally in 27 directions at once, you may be great at multitasking, but susceptible to getting overwhelmed in response to a mess, says Cindy Glovinsky, author of "One Thing at a Time: 100 Simple Ways to Live Clutter-Free Every Day."
Instead of focusing on the vase you're about to put back on the shelf, you glance around at the papers piled on the desk or the kitty litter on the carpet. The solution? Telling yourself, "One thing at a time."
"These five magic little words have the power to release you from even the most profound state of lethargy, overwhelm, or confusion and get you moving again," Glovinsky said.
October is Love-a-Dog Month on O'ahu, and the City & County Department of Environmental Services offers these tips to be an environmentally-friendly dog-lover:
• Pet waste contains harmful bacteria that can contaminate surface water and pollute our ocean, so don't wash it from sidewalks into the storm drain. • Pick up pet waste as soon as possible to keep it out of our storm drain system. • Dispose of pet waste in a bag for the trash or place in landscaped areas.
