Man robbed in store parking lot

A 21-year-old man was robbed last night in the parking lot of a Waikiki convenience store.

The man told police he had gotten out of his car about 10 p.m. and was headed for the entrance to the Food Pantry on Kuhio Avenue when he was approached by three men.

One of the men pulled a knife and demanded the man empty his pockets, police said. They said the man turned over his wallet, cellular telephone and car keys, at which point the three men, who appeared to be in their 20s, ran away.

The robbery victim walked to the Waikiki police substation to report the incident, and when he returned to the parking lot, discovered his car had been stolen as well, police said.

Sister turns in boy suspected in theft

A 17-year-old boy suspected of stealing a truck about 10 a.m. Saturday at Waimea Beach Park was turned in by his sister yesterday, police said.

They said the boy's sister saw him driving a truck yesterday and realized it did not belong to him. The sister checked the truck and found a business card.

Police said the sister called the number on the card and got ahold of the truck's owner, who told her the truck had been stolen.

The sister called police, who arrested the boy on suspicion of auto theft.

Man arrested after car stolen

Police arrested a 32-year-old man in Pearl City yesterday on suspicion of car theft in connection with a car reported stolen by a Kapolei resident.

Police said a patrol officer saw the driver commit a traffic violation and asked dispatchers to check the license plate number.

Dispatchers confirmed the car was on the stolen vehicle list and the officer attempted to stop the Acura Integra. The driver stopped but got out of the car and ran.

He was caught after a short foot chase and arrested, police said.

Woman nabbed in theft of car

A 26-year-old woman was arrested about 11 a.m. yesterday in Wai'anae on suspicion of car theft after a police officer found her driving a car that had been reported stolen.

The officer thought the license plate on the car was on a list of stolen license plate numbers. He double checked with police dispatchers who confirmed the car was reported stolen by another Wai'anae resident.

The officer stopped the car and noticed it was being operated with a screwdriver in the ignition instead of a key.

The woman was released without charges pending further investigation.

Police arrest man after shots fired

A Makaha man was arrested on suspicion of various weapons violations after allegedly firing two shots in the middle of the street yesterday morning.

Police said the man, a Nukea Street resident, called his sister who lives nearby about 4 a.m. and told her to get out of her house because someone was coming after her.

The sister reported hearing two gunshots coming from the direction of her brother's house, police said.

They said that when police arrived at the scene, the man placed a handgun on the ground and put his hands up.

A resident of the home where the man lives told police the man had been acting irrationally before firing two gunshots in the direction of the sister's house.

Police recovered two shell casings and arrested the man, 48, for suspicion of improperly storing a gun, reckless endangering and possession of an unregistered firearm.
