Chun commits to Stanford

Kamehameha senior Mari Chun committed to play golf for Stanford during her campus visit over the weekend.
After her success, Chun had to choose from a long list of interested schools. She visited USC and Arizona State, and was planning to go to UCLA this weekend. After meeting her future teammates last weekend, she called off the visit to UCLA.
Stanford was the only school that required Chun to go through the application process. While she was visiting Friday, she found out she had been accepted. Within an hour, Chun made her commitment.
"I am going to be a tree," Chun told her parents, referring to the Cardinal mascot. Mother Lani called it a "parents' dream come true."
Chun can sign a letter of intent Nov. 10.
She said she spent her time in Stanford with players on the 18th-ranked team, including sophomore and Punahou graduate Jenna Seki.
"I really felt like I could get along with everyone, really felt like I could belong there," Chun said. "Everyone was really nice and I could tell that's how they normally are, too."
Chun, a two-time Interscholastic League of Honolulu champ, was named to the 2004 Rolex Junior All-America team.

Chun won the Hawai'i State Women's Golf Association Match Play Championship in June. She followed that by capturing the Callaway Junior World Championship, for girls 15 to 17, the following month.
