Get ready to shake things up a little at the upcoming Rock the Island concert, which features headliner Manntis, left, a metal/hardcore band. Hailing from Southern California, Manntis wraps up its West Coast tour in Honolulu, which also serves to promote the new MTV reality series, "Battle for Ozzfest." Also appearing will be local rock band Amplified. Tickets are $10 advance and $15 at the door, for 18 and older. Doors open at 7 p.m.

DANCE: Nov. 10

Ballet Hawaii kicks off its 2004-2005 season with a presentation of the Paul Taylor Dance Company, left. This revered dance ensemble based in New York is celebrating its 50th year of award-winning modern dance and acclaimed choreography. Tickets are $25, $35 and $45, with discounts for students, seniors and military.

CONCERT: Nov. 13

T.S.O.L. returns to Hawai'i to help celebrate the DVD release of "T.S.O.L. Live In Hawaii." Rock on to the True Sounds of Liberty as these Orange County boys bring down the house. Local rockers The Enhancements, The Hell Caminos and The Grave Robbers open. Tickets for the all-ages bash are $10 advance, $15 at the door.

STAGE: Nov. 17-Dec. 5

Manoa Valley Theatre continues its 36th season with the comedy-mystery "Red Herring." Written by Michael Hollinger, this play intertwines comedy, a murder mystery and the story of six people looking for love in a 1950s setting. Tickets are $25, with a $5 discount for military and seniors. Tickets for those 25 and younger are $15.

Army Community Theatre follows up its stellar season opener with the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "The King and I." English widow Anna (Tina Shelton, right) heads for Bangkok to tutor the wives and children of the King of Siam (Ray Bumatai) amidst a musically rich backdrop filled with tunes such as "I Have Dreamed" and "Shall We Dance?" Tickets: $14, $17 general and $8, $10 children.

"Music Meets Aloha" is the title of a fund-raiser concert for the MAVIN Foundation, which supports bone marrow recruitment efforts for mixed-race individuals. Lending their talents for the show will be 'ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro, vocalist Maila Gibson, drummer Noel Okimoto, singer/songwriter from Japan Masayoshi Yamazaki and a three-man group from Australia called The Beautiful Girls. Tickets for seats are $35 advance and $38 at the door. For the lawn area, tickets are $20 advance and $23 at the door. Student, senior and military discounts are available. Doors open at 4 p.m.

CONCERT: Nov. 19-20

Songwriter-guitarist-singer Richard Thompson returns to Honolulu for back-to-back concerts that feature a different program each night. The Grammy nominated artist will first feature music from his more than 35 years of experience, including his recent release, "The Old Kit Bag." The second performance includes a history of song dating back to the 12th century up to the present. The program includes hits from Louis Armstrong, The Who, Beatles and Britney Spears. Local band Bobby Ingano Trio also appears. Tickets are $50 advance for both evenings, $30 advance per show or $35 at the door for each performance.

FESTIVAL: Nov. 19-20

Get down and red-dirty culturally as the Hawaii United Okinawa Association presents the first Red Dirt Storytelling Festival. Four shows over two days features local storytellers talking about Hawai'i's rich heritage, as well as headliner and international storyteller Patrick Ball. The four shows offered will be "Tales Under a Tent," "Obake Tales," "Tales for the Entire Family" and "Tales from Island Cultures." Admission to "Tales Under a Tent" is free, and tickets for each of the remaining three shows are $5 general, and $3 children 12 and younger. A weekend pass is $13 adults, $6 children.

SPORTS: Nov. 30

The most famous basketball team in the world swoops in for a slam dunk at the Blaisdell as part of its Asia-Pacific tour. Formed in 1926, the Harlem Globetrotters have performed in 117 countries and played in front of more than 120 million fans. The revered team has gone on to spawn dozens of notable names, including Wilt Chamberlain, Marques Haynes and Hubert "Geese" Ausbie. Tickets are $35 courtside/side risers, $25 risers, $15 and $10 upper levels. Children 12 and younger, seniors 65 and older and military with ID receive discounts of $3 off the $35 and $25 tickets and $2 off the $15 and $10 prices.

COMING UP:

Punk fest Dec. 11

Are you ready to rock? Are you ready to rock away those holiday blues? Then mark your December calendar for the 5th annual Punk on a Rock, Dec. 11 at Pipeline CafÚ. Doors open at 3 p.m. This year's concert features six bands from the Mainland — Guttermouth, Mad Caddies, Death By Stereo, The Briefs, ASG and Drowning Adam. Tickets are $18, on sale at Pipeline, Cheapo's (Puck's Alley), Jelly's ('Aiea) and Hawaii's Natural High.

Surf's up!

Pipeline CafÚ is hosting another big bash: The kickoff party for the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing event takes place Nov. 10, featuring ska favorite Go Jimmy Go and alt-rockers Missing Dave. Doors open at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 presale at Pipeline, Cheapo's (Puck's Alley), Jelly's ('Aiea), Good Guys Music (Kapahulu), Hungry Ear (Kailua) and Hawaii's Natural High. It's an 18-and-older show. Other special guests will perform, and top pro surfers will be in attendance. 926-3000. Oh, the actual surfing event begins Nov. 12 on the North Shore.
