Try a better-quality radio to improve signal reception
By Glenn Haege
Q. Four days ago, our clock radio stopped picking up an AM radio signal. None of our other radios plugged into electrical outlets receive AM stations. We are able to receive FM stations. How do we solve the problem?
A. Your problem is the quality of your radios. Let's face it, most radios are very cheaply made. A good place to find the best radios on the market, plus folks who know enough about antennas to show you how to bring in any AM or FM signal loud and clear, is at C. Crane Co., www.ccrane.com. They don't just sell, they actually design many of their radios and antennas. A. You now know that you should never store a refrigerator or freezer with the door closed if it is not plugged in. The first thing I would do is call the manufacturer and ask for their directions. If they don't have any, or their solutions don't work, try this (if the mold has not gotten into the insulation): 1. Wash out the freezer with a solution of TSP (trisodium phosphate), bleach and hot water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
2. Rent or buy an ozone machine and put it in the freezer. Run it for at least three days.
3. Give the freezer the sniff test. If it seems OK, run it for a while. Good luck.
Q. When we moved into our new house, we stored our old refrigerator. I would like to use the refrigerator again, but when I opened the door, the inside was covered in mold. What should I do?
