UC Davis tops BYUH in water polo

The Brigham Young University-Hawai'i men's water polo team lost to UC Davis, 9-4, yesterday at Davis, Calif.

Patrick Jacobson led UC Davis with four goals and Michael Long added two. BYU-Hawai'i was led by Vlada Stankovic's two goals. Vanja Kalabic and Keith Dow added one goal each.

The Aggies improved to 13-11, BYUH dropped to 10-3. The teams were tied for 13th in last week's national rankings.

BYUH faces Santa Clara and Washington today.



GOLF

Seki tied for 53rd place in Q-School qualifier

Punahou and UCLA alum Jim Seki shot a 1-under 71 yesterday and was tied for 53rd after two rounds of a first stage PGA Q-School qualifying tournament at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister, Calif.

Seki is at 147 after two rounds.

Matt Bettencourt, of Modesto, Calif., shot a 65 and leads the way at 129. The top 23 scorers after 72 holes advance to the second stage of qualifying.

There are 27 players at 142 or better after two rounds.

Taketa, Kaneko near back of club pro field

Hawai'i's Lance Taketa shot an 8-over 80 and Scotty Kaneko an 86 in the first round of the PGA Assistant Club Pro Championship at Port St. Lucie, Fla.

V.J. Trolio and Jay Davis lead with 6-under 66s.
