Hawai'i runners finish fifth in WAC

Freshman Sabrina Reeve helped the University of Hawai'i women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Western Athletic Conference Championships yesterday at Ruston, La.
Reeve posted a season-best time of 17 minutes, 56 seconds in the 5-kilometer run to finish ninth.
The Rainbow Wahine scored 122 points for their best finish at the championships since placing fourth in 2001.
Also scoring for Hawai'i were: Dana Buchanan (18:10, 11th), Chantelle Laan (18:44, 19th), Danielle Binns (19:33, 37th) and Kelly Young (19:48, 46th).
"I thought, as a team, we performed well," UH coach Carmyn James said. "Sabrina had the third fastest time for a freshman and all of our girls ran under 20:00."
Southern Methodist easily won the title with 30 points as all five of its qualifying runners finished in the top 10.
Rice's Kate Gorry won in 17:01.

Baldwin sweeps Maui championships
Baldwin's boys and girls teams swept the Maui Interscholastic League titles yesterday.
Kainoa Guerin won the 3-mile boys race in 17 minutes, 13 seconds to help the Bears score 39 points. Seabury Hall was second with 47 points.
Baldwin's girls, with five runners finishing among the first nine, scored 28 points to outdistance runner-up King Kekaulike (46).
Brittany Young of Seabury Hall won the 2-mile girls race in 12:45.
Kalani's girls, 'Aiea's boys win OIA JVs
Kalani's girls and 'Aiea's boys won the O'ahu Interscholastic Association junior varsity titles yesterday.
Kalani scored 72 points to outrun second-place McKinley (94). Marina Simpson of McKinley won the 2-mile race in 12:41.11.
'Aiea scored 58 points to ease past runner-up Leilehua (90). Alan Akagi of Leilehua won the 3-mile race in 17:17.40.

Sepulona carries Chaminade to sweep
Valasi Sepulona amassed 20 kills and 13 digs as Chaminade swept Western New Mexico, 30-27, 30-25, 32-30, yesterday in a Pacific West women's volleyball match at Silver City, N.M.
Kahala Kabalis added 17 kills and Patti Hardimon contributed 11 kills and six blocks for the Silverswords, who improved to 15-5 overall and 8-2 in the PacWest.
Liz Narkon, a 2002 St. Francis graduate, had 13 kills for Western New Mexico (18-10, 4-4).
WATER POLO
BYU-Hawai'i wins two in Shootout
The 13th-ranked Brigham Young University-Hawai'i men's water polo team won two games yesterday at the UC-Davis Aggie Shootout.
The Seasiders (12-3) defeated UC-Santa Cruz, 12-9, and 17th-ranked Air Force, 11-6. Vanja Kalabic scored seven goals in the two games, and Dutch Turley added four.
SOFT TENNIS
Roosevelt boys, Leilehua girls triumph
Roosevelt's boys and Leilehua's girls won O'ahu Interscholastic Association soft tennis titles yesterday.
Roosevelt beat Waipahu, 3-0, and Leilehua defeated Waipahu, 3-0, in the finals.
