Hearings set on Verizon sale

The state Public Utilities Commission announced plans to hold public hearings on the proposed $1.65 billion purchase of Verizon Hawaii by The Carlyle Group.
The hearings are scheduled at the following locations and times: Oct. 5, 6 p.m., State Capitol Auditorium, Basement Level, 415 S. Beretania St., Honolulu; Oct. 7, 6 p.m., Lihu'e Neighborhood Center (old building), 3353 Eono St., Lihu'e; Oct. 12, 6 p.m., Maui Waena Intermediate School Cafeteria, 795 Onohee Ave., Kahului; Oct. 13, 6 p.m., Mitchell Pauole Center, Conference Room, Kaunakakai; Oct. 14, 6 p.m., Lana'i High & Elementary School Cafeteria, Fraser Avenue, Lana'i City; Oct. 19, 6 p.m., Hilo Intermediate School Cafeteria, 587 Waianuenue Ave., Hilo; Oct. 20, 8 p.m., Kealakehe Intermediate School Cafeteria, 74-5062 Onipa'a St., Kailua, Kona.
Central Pacific Financial Corp. has named Neal Kanda, its treasurer, to the board of directors, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing made yesterday. He replaces Alice Guild, who retired in July. Once the bank completes its merger in September with CB Bankshares, City Bank's parent, Kanda will become president and chief operating officer.
