Kamehameha alum named coach of year
| Local player's pride isn't just skin deep |

Saddleback College head baseball coach Jack Hodges, a Kamehameha graduate, has been selected as the American Baseball Coaches Association/Diamond Sports Company California Community College Coach of the Year for 2004.
Three players from Hawai'i played for Saddleback last season: third baseman Joseph Kala (Maui '03 of Kahului), left-handed pitcher Morgan Kruger-Burgess (Kealakehe '02 of Holualoa) and first baseman Keahi Kapana (Campbell '02 of 'Ewa Beach).
Hodges will be presented his award at the Hall of Fame/Coach of the Year banquet in the Opryland Hotel during the ABCA National Convention in Nashville, Tenn., on Jan. 7.
Idaho State sophomore defender Jennifer Loo (Mililani '03) had two assists over the weekend as the Bengals defeated Southern Utah, 2-1, and Brigham Young, 3-1. BYU junior defender Charlene Lui (Punahou '02 of Ho-nolulu) started for the Cougars.
Southern Methodist sophomore forward Adria Campbell (Punahou '03 of Kailua) scored a goal as the Mustangs defeated Texas Christian, 4-0, for their 10th straight season-opening victory.
Oregon freshman forward Kami Kapaku (Baldwin '04 of Wailuku) was pulled down from behind on a one-on-one near the goalie box, setting up a game-tying penalty kick as the Ducks played to a 1-all tie with No. 10 Ohio State in an exhibition Aug. 24..

Hodges guided the Gauchos to the state championship of the 2004 California Community College season with a 29-12 record, Saddleback's first-ever state title in baseball.
