More than $4.8 million in federal grants for Native Hawaiians has been awarded for Hawai'i community projects, under an Administration for Native Americans program.
The awards were announced by ANA commissioner Quanah Crossland Stamps during the annual Native Hawaiian Conference at the Hilton Hawaiian Village this week.
The grants are awarded in two categories. Social and Economic Development Strategies grants went to:
• Partners in Development, $715,536 • Waianae Coast Community Alternative Development Corp., $271,960 • Waianae Community Redevelopment Corp., $443,192 • Anahola Homesteaders Council, $479,640 • Nanakuli Housing Corp., $538,596 • Kamauoha Foundation, $1,478,592 • KHM International, $670,000. Two groups received Native Language Preservation and Maintenance grants:
• Alu Like Inc., $175,000 • Hawai'i Maoli, $96,413. Stamps' trip to the Islands will include site visits to ANA-financed projects and a roundtable discussion with representatives of Native Hawaiian organizations and other Native Pacific Islanders.
