Advertiser Staff
The First Unitarian Church is hosting its first ministerial intern, Katherine Lawson
She's doing a six-month internship at the Nu'uanu church, serving with senior minister the Rev. Mike Young. She'll be participating in committees and interfaith efforts, and will preach at occasional Sunday services.
First Unitarian had agreed to become a teaching congregation to help train new ministers by taking interns, who along with earning a bachelor's and theological school degree and performing pastoral counseling under supervision must get approval from the denomination's fellowship committee.
Lawson is a student at Starr King School for the Ministry, the Unitarian Universalist theological school in Berkeley, Calif.
