O'ahu Arts Center plans fund-raiserplans fund-raiser

The O'ahu Arts Center will hold its inaugural "A Night of the Arts," a fund-raising event to support arts education and performing arts, from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Mililani Golf Course. Event highlights include food, art activities, a silent auction, art rummage sale and live entertainment.

Participating restaurants include Dixie Grill, Haleiwa Eats, Jimmy's Lakeside Bakery Cafe, Mediterraneo Italian Restaurant, Mililani Golf Course Restaurant, Pah Ke's, and Tanioka's Sea-foods & Catering.

Entertainment includes a special salute to remember 9/11 by the Mililani High School Color Guard and Marching Band; award-winning slam poets Selah Geissler and Kealoha; music by the Just Two Girls Trio, featuring Sonya Mendez, Mimi Conner, and Rocky Holmes; and the trio Ben, Maila, and Albert. Ben Vegas is a longtime Mililani resident, Maila Gibson, of Kaua'i, just released her first CD, and Albert Maligmat is known as "Little Albert" with the Society of Seven.

There also will be canvas art and costume dress-ups with picture-taking for a small fee.

Master of ceremonies is Honolulu Councilman Nestor R. Garcia.

Proceeds from the event will be used to develop programs for an arts education center and performance spot in Mililani Mauka to serve Hale'iwa, Kapolei, Mililani, the North Shore, Wahiawa, Waialua, Wai'anae, Waikele, Waipahu and Waipi'o. Construction is expected to begin in the next four years.

Tickets are $50 per person and $25 for children 12 and younger. Ticket price covers unlimited food, drinks and entertainment. There will be an area with activities, prizes and food for children younger than 12.
