ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Escape the rat race
Advertiser Staff
Your job is not your life, says Anna Quindlen, author of "A Short Guide to a Happy Life."
She writes, "Don't ever forget what a friend once wrote to Sen. Paul Tsongas when the senator had decided not to run for re-election because he'd been diagnosed with cancer: 'No man ever said on his deathbed I wish I had spent more time at the office.' ... (or) don't ever forget the words on a postcard that my father sent me last year: 'If you win the rat race, you're still a rat.' "
Here's a tidbit that may help you sleep well tonight: Corporate giants can be eco-friendly, too. Some examples:
Intel removes all lead from its processors and chip sets. Sanyo makes CDs from corn, called MildDiscs. Hewlett Packard recycles ink-jet cartridges to make scanner covers. In Japan, Fuji Xerox produces photocopiers from 70 percent recycled parts.
