San Diego next for Hilo Hattie

Local retailer Hilo Hattie is resuming Mainland expansion plans with a 5,000-square-foot shop in San Diego scheduled to open in spring 2005.
The new store, which follows the closure of three larger Mainland stores in the last two years, is part of the company's renewed strategy to expand its presence on the Mainland with more carefully located stores.
Hilo Hattie has three Mainland stores today.
Company chief executive Paul deVille said the San Diego store will be in the dining, shopping and entertainment-orientated Gaslamp District where the customer base is similar to Hilo Hattie's Mainland flagship store in Orange, Calif.
"Southern California residents have such an affinity to Hawai'i, and we identify well with that market," he said.
Beginning today, guests at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa will be able to use self-service kiosks at Honolulu International Airport to check into the hotel and get their rooom keys.
The service, the first of its kind in the nation, will allow guests to get a jump start on the hotel check-in process before they claim their baggage and leave the airport, a Hilton spokesman said.
