ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Lipizzaner stallions are a dazzling sight to see

Advertiser Staff

"Show business flair adds the visual icing to the Lipizzaner's unusual performance," says Advertiser reviewer Joseph Rozmiarek. "The animals are groomed as if for a beauty pageant, with glossy coats, hoof polish, and — in a featured solo number — a Las Vegas supply of sequins."

The World Famous Lipizzaner Stallions perform at 7:30 p.m., today and tomorrow, 2:30 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday at Blaisdell Arena. Tickets: $35, $24.50 and $19.50 at the box office and Ticketmaster locations; (877) 750-4400, www.ticketmaster.com.

Light and airy scarves made with Hawai'i-style flair

In keeping with trends toward feminine accessories worn at the neck, head or waist, Honolulu artist Pegge Hopper has turned her hand to wearable art, printing one of her distinctive paintings of a Hawaiian woman on a silk crépe-de-Chine scarf.

The rectangle, 10 by 45 inches, is light and airy for the Island climate. The limited-edition scarf sells for $80 at the Pegge Hopper Gallery, 1164 Nu'uanu Ave., or write to ladam@hawaii.rr.com. For more information, phone Linda Adamson at 734-0006.

Final word

David Ellis | director of "Cellular," which opens tonight, on 23-year-old star Chris Evans:

"There are a lot of good actors in Chris' age group. ... We read all of them, but Chris stood out from the crowd. We wanted a cocky, good-looking kid, someone girls like. Chris is like a young Tom Cruise."
