Big fish meant big surprise

Advertiser Staff

Paul Shin, center, had a bit of a surprise when he caught this 40-pound ulua while fishing for moi on the Windward side. Shin, with daughters Breanna, left, and Vanessa, right, needed 30 minutes to land the fish. "We were going for a much smaller fish," Shin says, "and this thing came up." While Breanna and Vanessa weren't along for the trip, the two were duly impressed with dad's catch. "The weight (of the fish) was actually as heavy as both of the girls," Shin says. Jon Teraizumi got an assist on the ulua, helping Shin pull it in and then carrying it to the car.
