Workshop set at Baha'i center

Christa Morf will lead a free "The Language of the Heart" workshop at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at the National Spiritual Center of the Baha'is of the Hawaiian Islands, 3264 Allan Place.
Morf is a counselor and a certified trainer for nonviolent communication who offers workshops in Hawai'i, on the Mainland and in Europe.
Information: Chris Miller, 255-3860. A new film series held at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa will open with a documentary on Big Island spirituality, called "Mauna Kea: Temple Under Siege."
Screenings will take place every Friday and Sunday in the Architecture Auditorium, beginning Sept. 24.
The premiere of the Mauna Kea documentary will include a reception for Big Island filmmakers Puhipau and Joan Lander and a question-and-answer session after the 6 p.m. screening. The film explores the question of whether the mountain should be used for astronomy or preserved for its spiritual value among the Hawaiian people.
Films will be shown at 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Friday, and at 5 p.m. on Sunday; admission is $5 and $3, depending on the film.
The Hawaii Christian Coalition will hold its first meeting on "Turning Churches Into Community Centers" at noon Sept. 28 at the First Baptist Church, on the corner of Kina'u and Pensacola streets. Participants will discuss how to allow students to go to neighborhood churches where, with signed waivers from parents, they can do homework and participate in supervised activities until a designated pickup time.
Speakers at the first meeting will include U.S. Attorney Ed Kubo and Board of Education chairman Breene Harimoto.
