ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Savor a sunset
Advertiser Staff
In the best-selling book "Simplify Your Life: 100 Ways to Slow Down and Enjoy the Things That Really Matter," take special note of tip No. 83: Take time to watch the sunset.
Author Elaine St. James writes: "Seen in the light of the setting sun, our problems seem minor, even if only for a few moments.
"The wonderful thing about sunset, and much the same can be said for sunrise, is that it happens every day, and even if the sunset itself is not spectacular, it marks the beginning of the end of another day."
The dangers to our ocean seem endless: pollution, overfishing, poor land use and deep-sea mining, to name a few. But efforts like Native Hawaiians' traditional stewardship of land and sea, and new international fishing agreements, have countered such threats.
Learn more at a special talk and book signing by Rod Fujita, author of "Heal the Ocean Solutions for Saving Our Seas," noon to 2 p.m. today at the Waikiki Aquarium.
The lecture is free, but the book-signing requires aquarium admission. Details: 923-9741.
