Japanese center to honor four

The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i will honor four outstanding leaders in community service at the Celebration of Lifetime Achievement Dinner, 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom.

The event will recognize:

  • Fujio Matsuda, former state transportation director and University of Hawai'i president.
  • Dr. Albert Miyasato, former acting state schools superintendent and a leader in the Hawai'i United Okinawa Association, the Honpa Hongwanji Association and the Pan-Pacific Festival-Matsuri in Hawai'i.
  • Joanne Ninomiya, founder of the Japanese television production company JN Productions Inc.
  • Ryozo Sakai, president of Sony Hawaii Co.

Honorary co-chairs of the event are former first lady Jean Ariyoshi and Star Markets' chief executive officer John Fujieki Jr.

No-host cocktails and a silent auction will start at 5:30 p.m.; dinner starts at 6:55 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit art, history and cross-cultural programs at the center. For more information, call 945-7633.
