Local golfers ousted at Mid-Amateur

Wailuku's Desiree Ting and former University of Hawai'i golfer Sandra Nakagaki were eliminated in the first round of match play yesterday at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship at Knoxville, Tenn.

Ting, the 39th seed, lost to 26th-seeded Debbie Adams, of Biltmore Forest, N.C., 2-1.

The 42nd-seeded Nakagaki, who lives in Culver, Calif., lost to No. 23 Marianne Towersey, of Newport Beach, Calif., 2 and 1.

The event was held at Holston Hills Country Club.


TRIATHLON

Na Wahine Sprint will be held Sept. 19

The Na Wahine Sprint Triathlon, the state's only all-female triathlon, will be held Sept. 19 in the Kapi'olani Park area.

The event, which is open to amateur females at least 14 years of age, features a .75K swim, 20K bike trail ride and 5K run.
