Water leak in Waikiki fixed

Advertiser Staff

A portion of Kalia Road in Waikiki was closed last night while crews repaired a leaking 8-inch meter valve near the Hale Koa Hotel.

The road was closed between Maluhia Street and Saratoga Road after the leak was reported about 3 p.m. Officials at first thought a 12-inch water main had ruptured beneath the road.

Repairs were finished overnight.

Water service to the hotel was affected. The Honolulu Board of Water Supply stationed a water wagon at the hotel.

Another utility problem affected Punchbowl residents yesterday. The Gas Co. conducted repairs on an underground pipeline on Lusitana Street, between Pauoa Road and Auwaiolimu Street.

Lusitana was closed to mauka-bound traffic. Motorists traveling west on Auwaiolimu also were not allowed to turn right onto Lusitana toward Pauoa; they were restricted to left turns onto Lusitana.

Repairs began at 8:30 a.m. and were concluded at 3:30 p.m.
