Endowment aids workshops
The Hawai'i Council for the Humanities has received an award of $45,380 to pay for workshops about teaching American culture through history, literature, biography, art or popular culture.
The money comes from the National Endowment for the Humanities as part of its $1.2 million "We the People" initiative.
The Hawai'i project will cover four workshops, targeting primarily elementary school teachers in grades 4 to 6, to be presented next spring.
ASSETS School receives $52,000
ASSETS School recently received $52,000 in grants to support its tuition assistance program and its teacher training and outreach program.
The McInerny Foundation contributed $20,000, the Frear Eleemosynary Trust donated $12,000, the G. N. Wilcox Trust and Friends of Hawaii Charities each gave $7,500 and the Verizon Foundation gave $5,000.
