BUSINESS BRIEFS
Regulatory board bolstered

Gov. Linda Lingle yesterday appointed two members to the Small Business Regulatory Review Board — the first appointments since late last year. The board still will be short two people, but with the appointments, the group likely will have a quorum of six people when it meets Oct. 12.

The independent board comprises volunteer business leaders who serve as a court of last resort before businesses take legal action against agency rules they feel are burdensome.

Verizon sale hearings altered

The state Public Utilities Commission yesterday revised its plans to hold public hearings on the Big Island about the proposed $1.65 billion purchase of Verizon Hawaii by The Carlyle Group.

The new hearing schedule: Oct. 19, 6 p.m., Kealakehe Intermediate School Cafeteria, 74-5062 Onipa'a St., Kailua, Kona; and Oct. 20, 6 p.m., Hilo Intermediate School Cafeteria, 587 Waianuenue Ave., Hilo.
