Warriors lose to Rice, 41-29

Associated Press

Greg Henderson ran for 135 yards and scored two of his three touchdowns late in the fourth quarter as Rice came back to beat Hawai'i 41-29 tonight.

Henderson also passed for two scores and Ed Bailey rushed 37 times for 234 yards and a touchdown for Rice (2-0, 1-0 WAC).

Hawai'i (0-2, 0-1) led 29-28 when Henderson capped an 80-yard drive with an 8-yard run with 5:16 left. Rice then shut down Hawai'i and Henderson put the game out of reach with a 4-yard run with 1:27 left.

Henderson ran 19 times and was 5-of-12 for 118 yards passing.

Timmy Chang led Hawai'i with 34-of-50 passing for 363 yards and three touchdowns.

Hawai'i had taken the lead on a 25-yard field goal by Justin Ayat with 10:12 left. A fumble recovery by Ikaika Curnan set up the score.

Henderson's first TD run, a 5-yarder, had put Rice up 28-19. But then Chang had a 31-yard touchdown pass to Michael Brewster on the last play of the third quarter to pull within two points.

After falling behind 7-0, Rice scored on its first three possessions of the game and led 21-13 at the half.
